Lunch was provided at work today. “Caesar Salad” and pizza. The salad is in quotes because it wasn’t salad. It was lettuce and croutons with a side of dressing. Sadly by the time I got to work, there were a few lettuce scraps left and I’d forgotten my lunch/dinner. I ate the scraps and later had some pizza.
This led to the “I didn’t know you still eat pizza” conversation. I explained it was out of desperation and not wanting to get a headache from not eating (I got the headache anyhow.)
A co-worker said she loves pizza, it makes her happy. Someone else chimed in that it is all about chocolate for them. Another said something about sweets. I laughed and said that an avocado and a handful of chips do wonders for my dopamine.
They stared at me. Then one of them said “You mean like someone who gets high?”
“Sugar, fat, salt, otherwise known as The Pleasure Trap,” I laughed and told them I’m reading the book so I can try to not feel so good when I eat chips (we laughed.)
Then one co-worker said, “I just realized, I always rewarded my kids with food, just like my mom did. I didn’t know! We shouldn’t do that, should we?” She had just had some sort of Nutella type stuff on an apple, and had said how much she loved it.
We discussed the sugar, fat, salt thing some more. Somehow, knowing that other people outside the E2X world have their own pleasure traps makes me feel a little bit normal.
It’s going to take gallons of water to get that pizza out of my system…
